Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) and the NSW Water Directorate have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing a platform for enhancing the value to members of both organisations and reinforcing their commitment to collaboration in the urban water industry.

The agreement was signed by Adam Lovell, Executive Director WSAA and Gary Mitchell, Executive Officer, Water Directorate. The MOU is the first agreement between the organisations and recognises opportunities for both to work together as they advocate for the water industry.

The agreement provides discounted access to WSAA Codes and Standards by 50 per cent for Water Directorate members with 20,000 property connections or less. Under the agreement, both parties will seek to establish collaborative opportunities and promote each other’s initiatives to key stakeholders where appropriate.

Water Directorate Executive Officer, Gary Mitchell said the signing of the two year agreement was positive news for the industry.

“Regional water services in NSW have improved and matured over the past two decades and this MOU provides even more opportunities for positive change by providing access to participate in WSAA subscription projects,” said Mitchell.

WSAA Executive Director Adam Lovell said the MOU will lead to collaborative opportunities including the potential for joint events.

“NSW faces many challenges, including enabling growth and managing extreme events, all of which place pressure on the delivery of water and sewerage services. There is benefit for all utilities and the Water Directorate in sharing experiences and knowledge,” said Lovell.

Water Directorate provides focused technical information to its members and advice to the State Government on water policy. WSAA is the industry body that supports the Australian urban water industry, acting on behalf of all members to provide a strong, national voice for the industry.
