This appraisal is for Victaulic ductile iron restrained mechanical couplings suitable for joining PN16 PE 100 pipes. This Issue 3 is a replacement for the previous version of the appraisal which was nearing its 5-year expiry date.
Two types of couplings have been submitted for appraisal:
- Style 905 Victaulic couplings for joining plain end PE pipe in sizes from DN 63 to DN 225.
This coupling style incorporates a sealing gasket and Grade 316 stainless-steel retaining rings, integral to the coupling housing, to provide joint restraint. The couplings have been type tested on PN16 PE100 pipe at test pressures that qualifies allowable operating pressures up to 1600kPa. No special preparation is required for the plain ends of the pipe.
- Style 907 Victaulic couplings for joining plain end PE pipe to grooved end IPS steel pipe in sizes from DN 63 to DN 225.
This coupling style incorporates a transition gasket to accommodate sealing on both plain end PE pipe and grooved end IPS steel pipe. Grade 316 stainless steel retaining rings, integral to the coupling housing, provides joint restraint for the PE pipe. The steel pipe must be grooved prior to installation of the coupling. The couplings have been type tested on PN16 PE100 pipe at test pressures that qualifies allowable operating pressures up 1600kPa.
The joint design does not require internal pipe support sleeves.
The couplings are offered as an alternative to electrofusion couplings or butt welding for joining PE pipes.
