This Technical Note identifies commercially available lead-free* copper alloys commonly utilised internationally within products intended for contact with drinking water that are deemed acceptable alternatives to those basic copper alloys currently specified in Australian Standards for water industry products. The acceptability is based on superior mechanical properties and compliance with the dezincification resistance requirements of AS 2345. For applications in contact with highly corrosive drinking waters containing high chlorides, low alkalinity and/or high sulphates it is recognised that long term dezincification tests may be necessary to assess the suitability of these alloys.
