National and international instances of explosions or near misses in wastewater infrastructure have been on the rise.

In response, the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) and its members have developed their own internal guidance on how to manage the risk of the formation of a potentially explosive atmosphere.

This project provides a national guideline for classification of potentially explosive atmospheres in municipal wastewater infrastructure, with a specific focus on linear or network infrastructure. The guidance is designed to work in conjunction with existing documentation such as AS/NZS IEC 60079.10.1: 2022.

WSAA would like to thank the utilities that sponsored this project, and for making this work freely available to help increase safety across the water industry.
