An overview of the circular approach to carbon management in the Australian urban water industry.

The current and future management of biosolids presents a significant challenge for meeting environmental sustainability objectives and regulatory demands being placed on the urban water industry. These include emerging contaminants such as micro-plastics and PFAS as potential impediments to biosolids reuse. This challenge has led to the development of new opportunities being taken to assess alternative practices. This overview presents case studies of the different approaches taken by Australian water utilities and councils in developing biosolids to biochar.
