W-Lab is back in 2021 with a second Technology Showcase exploring ‘how might we find cost-effective alternative water supplies, manage stormwater and limit our extraction of freshwater from the natural environment?’.

The showcase will be held over three days from 16-18 March from 11:30am to 3.00pm AEST. A Power Hour, a specially designed highlights session for participating utility executives, will also be held on 16 March from 12:00pm to 1:00 pm AEST.

After a successful first Technology Showcase last year, the second Technology Showcase will focus on a “Nature” frame looking at a new water future that gives back to nature and enables thriving communities.

The W-Lab showcases focus on three innovation areas, core, adjacent and transformational.

  • Core technologies enable optimisation of existing processes. The Showcase outcomes of this area include water efficient devices and leak management to reduce water wastage, while also exploring the potential and benefits of water carting and recycled water and optimise the use of traditional sources by developing new sources.
  • Adjacent technologies move into modernising practices, drawing on knowledge from adjacent industries whilst maintaining cost and practicality. The outcomes of this area include Water sharing and maximise the potential of stormwater.
  • Transformational technologies are those looking to transform current practices, based on understanding future challenges and maintaining flexible strategies. These include purified recycled water for drinking and decentralised desalination.
