The Water Industry Alliance, in collaboration with SA Water, recently hosted the South Australian Water Innovation Launchpad, providing a unique opportunity to gain insight into the water sector’s future, and to learn more about new developments and innovations from both SA Water and the broader industry.

The event was loosely based on the reality television series “Shark Tank” that showcased Australian inventions with entrepreneurs’ spruiking their new innovative ideas to a panel of business and industry experts.

The Honourable, Karlene Maywald (FTSE GAICD) was the keynote speaker for the event and spoke on “The role of the Strategic Advisor to the South Australian Government on International Water Opportunities”.The Launchpad presenters were allotted five minutes to canvas their latest innovations to a technically ‘savvy’ audience, as well as a guest panel of industry experts.  SA Water carries out a significant amount of business innovation, research and development and five SA Water speakers shared their latest, game-changing ideas. Five Water Industry Alliance member companies were also competitively selected to showcase some of the best new technologies and innovative products from the wider water industry.

The guest panel challenged presenters with quick-fire questions, assessed each presentation and provided critical feedback on each of the innovations.  The panellists included industry experts: Annelise Avril, General Manager, Allwater; John Howard, General Manager Strategy & Planning, SA Water; Jim McGuire, General Manager Commercial & Business Development, SA Water; Tim Waterhouse, Chair, Water Industry Alliance; and Niki Robinson, Manager of Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Regulation, Office of the Technical Regulator.
